Toke entered her house tired, as she dragged herself to the couch, she made a mental note to change the air purifier as a stale smell drifted to her nose. Dropping her bag on the plush rug, she reclined into the couch and closed her eyes for some minutes, who would have thought that she would feel elated this morning after all that happened the night before...Hmnn, the night before she sighed as the memories came back to her fresh.
At 9pm, she sat to listen to the evening news as she waited for Ade, her husband to come back from work. She had taken her time at the shower after returning from the office, because she had some things running through her mind. Ade had called her earlier at the office, to tell her that there was something urgent and important the needed to discuss once he came home. He had refused to go into details but promised her he would be home early. As the water flowed down her body from the shower, so many thoughts ran through her mind. What was so important that he wanted to discuss? Did he get a promotion at work? Well, he would have just said it and they would make plans to hang out for the night to celebrate...no! it couldn't be that, then what? Ok, maybe it was a health issue, he had gone for a check up during the week, maybe the result was out and there was some bad news from it. Maybe he had a.....No,no, no! Toke waved the thoughts away and ignored her racing heart. "I'll just wait till he comes, I can't come and kill myself before my time" she said as she stepped out of the shower in her bath robe, moving towards the quiet room to pick something comfortable to wear before she headed to the kitchen.
She checked the time again for the umpteenth time that night, where could Ade be and why is he taking so long coming home, despite the earlier info that he would come in early? For the past 8 years they've been married, she had never felt agitated like she felt tonight. She just had a hunch that something was wrong, well all that will be laid to rest when Ade comes back. Just as she adjusted the throw pillows on the couch, she heard the front door open. She watched as her husband walked in as though he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. 'What is up with this man today" she thought to herself, nevertheless, she stood up and met him half way and collected his bag and suit.
'Welcome Honey, how was work today" she asked.
"So so", he replied.
"Which are you doing first today? Bath or Food", she asked as she turned towards the bedroom
"None"...She stopped moving and turned towards him
"That's strange. Ade mi, are you okay", she asked
"Dad called me earlier today, let's sit on the couch, my heels hurt", he moved towards the settee to avoid Toke seeing his distraught face. His mind was on the herculean task ahead of him in just some few minutes. He had thought of how best to break this news to her but had decided it was better to go into it headlong without wasting too much time.
Toke followed mutely behind completely at a loss but as she sat down close to him, he moved some inches away making her more curious and confused.
"Ade mi, why are you creating a distance between us? Whatever it is, I am sure we can find a solution to it'
"I am not sure this situation is one of those Toke"
"Ok, so Dad called, what did he say is the problem"
Ade sighed as he delved into the story, "Dad called to tell me he had a dream about something I have kept as a secret for about 2 years now, he advised strongly that I break the news to you instead of keeping you in the dark and I should let you decide what you want us to do about it"
Toke couldn't hear anything again, all she heard loud in her head was SECRET! How can he keep a secret from me for 2 whole years. She dropped his bag and suit as uncertainty began to build up within her.
.....To be continued

Adun Igbeyawo originates from the Yoruba language of the western region in Nigeria and it means 'the joys of marriage'. For a long time, the society has created fears about the marriage institution, and deliberately left out the joys. It is my earnest desire to use this blog to promote God's intentions for marriage and also celebrate as many couples as I come across in my lifetime, that are working out their marriage God's way by sharing our experiences. Welcome!
